The circular economy for smartphones is growing fast but without a compass. Until now.
Created as part of the 2025 Dipli and Ipsos study: Trade-in programs and refurbished smartphones: decoding European consumers. The DCI (Dipli Circular Index) assesses how far European markets have progressed toward a truly circular smartphone economy. More than a barometer, the DCI is a strategic index helping industry players understand market readiness, compare countries, and identify growth levers to accelerate the shift toward circularity.
The Dipli Circular Index (DCI) is the first custom-built metric measuring circular economy maturity across European smartphone markets. At its core, the DCI measures how advanced and confident each market is when it comes to refurbished devices and trade-in programs.
Built on 4,000+ respondents across France, Germany, the UK, and Poland. Each country receives a score out of 100, built on two equally weighted pillars:
Each component is weighted by its impact on circular velocity, giving you a single, actionable score that reflects real market readiness.
